I was just checking my facebook and noticed a missing persons alert. Well, most of the time, I don't really pay much attention because it has always been about people from the other side of the country or at least 100's of miles away.
Well, this is from our city. It said that a wife ran away with her kids (the picture shows 5 kids). The grandmother of the kids works at the local middle school.
Friday a man robbed a Wachovia Bank with a handgun. The bank is right beside the city's board of education. He ran between buses that were parked there and escaped. Our whole police force was looking for him. This bank is probably 1/2 mile from the high school. Thank you God that school has not started yet. As far as I know they still have not found him.
We live in a smaller city. Most people believe this to be a safe place to raise their kids. I have been telling people for a while now that it is getting bad in our area as well. I have just seen so many bad things happen lately here. There are middle school students (4-8 grade) running drugs for the drug dealers. Most of them running the drugs are 7 & 8 th grade. It is just so scary. I know of at least 3 in the boys grade. One of them came to school high on marijuana and tried to start a fight with my son. They didn't know he was high at the time though. He and my boys had always gotten along pretty well. They weren't really friends, but they talked some. He apologized to my son for trying to start a fight and getting him trouble. He told him he had been high on marijuana.
A kid brought a knife to school last year (in my boys grade-8th). My son turned him in to one of the teachers that he knew he could trust. This boy is made fun of all the time and had even told some of the kids that he was going to bring it so he could hurt another boy. Thankfully he was all talk this time.
I am so glad that we are homeschooling this year. It just saddens me so much to think of all the evil in our world.
