We do our best if we start in the morning. This past year, we'd do a lot at afternoon nap time and that was really hard for us to maintain. I know some really thrive on doing it really early or really late in the day.
We wing it. We have set things we do every day, and we fit them in as family activities through out the day whenever we can pin everyone down long enough to focus.
our son is autistic, and is excellent in math and science and above grade level. so, we are focusing more on reading, language, sign language, and that kind of stuff right now.
However, when we do science or math, it applies to life. doing checking accounts, grocery bills, how to balance a budget based on different income amounts - for science, right now were learning about how to make cheese, and goats milk products.
Every thing we do has a point... it makes our son more motivated to learn.
If we don't get going right after breakfast it's usually a wasted day... This year though we're still going to try and start right after breakfast again but trying to fit in some extra things (like the pool and hopefully dance classes) will I'm sure make us shift start times around
My goal for this year has been trying to get everyone in the habit of coming back to doing more work later in the day. Nothing huge just trying to add in some read aloud, art or an extended craft. They will need to work after lunch when they are older..might as well get in the habit now. Right?
We usually start around 8:30. If we don't get started right after breakfast, we just don't get started. We finish up after lunch like 1:30 or 2:00. We take lots of breaks for my little guy, he can only handle about 20 minutes of work at a time.
We SAY "school starts at 9 am"...big haha...usually its 10~10:30 because we stay up late on. DHs off days...sun, mon, tue...which are school nights.

We used to get started before 9am. But just recently everyone has been staying up a little later and also sleeping in. Plus dh works nights so it is almost pointless to have everyone on a super early schedule when dh is off work. They would barely see him. So..needless to say we have been getting started later, closer to 10 or 10:30. Then we are usually done with the important subjects by noon or 1:30.

I am so not a morning person. Of course, it would help if I could go to sleep at night. Many days we have started at noon! However, I have to get my rear in gear and get her going no later than 10am this year. We just have too much to do!

That is when my hubby is off as well! We do a 4 day school week, and we sometimes just go ahead and take Monday off, that way it doesn't feel like we are chasing our tails playing catch up all day. Lol
