No I was only ever around 1 homeschooler in my life and he was a creep. I always thought my kids would be in public school, I am glad they are home though.

I actually was set to go into forensic science before I had kidlets. Then when I just had the one I was thinking of being a teacher, but decided that teaching at home was the path I wanted.

Nope, never. I had no point of reference in real life.

Eh, kind of. I tried when my son was in kindergarten, but it wasn't working out so well with the k12 program... so I evnetually put him in public school.

Now, he's homeschooled. if I had known he was autistic in kindergarten, I may have held him back a couple of years, then tried mainstreaming him.... but we didn't find out until this year, that is why he was struggling so much.

Academically, he's very intelligent and book smart.

Socially, and emotionally, he's closer to the age of his 20 month old sister, which is why public school just wasn't working out for him.... so now we have it worked out in a way that works best for him.

I'm okay with my kids attending school if they want too, and I'm okay homeschooling them if they need it, or want it. LOL I'm pretty neuteral on it, some kids thrive in the public school system, and some kids do best homeschooled. I know a couple of homeschool kids who wish their parents would put them in school full time because they like the high school that their friends go too... and I know kids who would prefer never to step foot in a public school.

So for me, I always figured it was more about "the child" then what i believed. I think it depends on what's in the best interest of the individual child, their personality, and what makes them happy and learn the best.

What made you see a different picture in your mind?

Wow! Have your kids picked up any of your leanings towards science yet?

So what brought homeschooling to mind, if you don't mind my asking?

We are all HUGE Science Geeks. My oldest is doing a mystery themed science this year, every lesson we do has a mystery to solve using the methods we learned that day. Love it. We also all geeked out on the Mars landing. Even the 2yr old was bouncing around and squealing when it landed successfully lol. My 8yo ds likes to take my old fieldbooks and "solve who dunnit". He especially loves the footprints guide. We have banned talk about blood spatter analysis at dinner, my 5yo dd is a princess and squeamish about "icky stuffs".

I did lots of research and the school could not keep up with my oldest.  I hated fighting the school system for half the year and them still not giving me what I knew my dd needed.

I could see the same problems happening but harder with my shy, easy going, quite 2nd dd so I knew I had to find a better fit.  Nothing else gave me the feeling they could work with my kids and give them something at thier level that will challenge them and not be to hard.

I worried about them having friends.  But decided that they could make friends in girl scouts, at the park and play dates now that I have found a group that accepts us since we use k12, which also helps, they will be taking 1 class a week for 3 1/2 hours a day.

I do not believe I will use k12 when they are older and I probably will never use it when my 3 and 2 year old get ready.

I do still believe in sending them to public preschool my 5 year old got a lot of social skills out of 2 years of that.  They played and learned, what I wasnt always sure but she had fun and it gave her wonderful friends.
