Took sons to eye doctor.... :-(

Posted by   + Show Post

Took my boys to the eye doctor because my oldest is getting closer and closer to the books he's reading.  Yes, he most likely needs glasses, they want to see him again for the optometrist to see him.  (we only saw an optician?)

Then the REALLY bad news, they want the optometrist to see my youngest as well.  They think he's colorblind.  Well, no wonder he can't tell me his colors yet!!  They think it's deuteranopia.  Yes, I made them write it down.

So now what?  Anybody have any experience with this?

If you're talking about the "Mi casa es mi casa" one with the lizard beside it, the differences are subtle, but there. In the first image there is a pinkish tint to the space that the sign is sitting on. In the second image it's a neutral color. In the first image there is some extra colors to the lizard, some pinks, some light greens, etc... in the second image, you can only see yellows, blues, and whites. In the first image there are some pink berries on the leaves surrounding the "Mi casa es mi casa", in the second image, the pinks are not there.

In the first link there are two pictures side by side. I cannot tell the difference between them!

Wow!  That first link was wild!  No wonder he brings the blocks he does!

Thanks!  Those are both great links!

Poor thing...I don't know anything about this condition. I wonder if it's something that will change with age? Let us know what you find out..

It looks as if they only "grow out of it" if they were actually misdiagnosed in the first place.  Many doctors will give the test too early (when kids can't name the colors or the shapes, around age 2) but ds knows his shapes and we've been frustrated with color learning for a while now.
