I don't know any homeschoolers in my area,I would love to meet some maybe if I take the kiddos to the park I might meet some:)
There are 2 co-ops locally, both are quite large. I've never participated, large group things are very challenging with my autistic son. I do know several families at our church that hs, so that helps.

I found some through my church, then found a secular group from there, then more and more! I had no idea there were so many!

This is our first year, but I started a homeschool group for our county using Facebook. I already know all of them that joined, but FB allows us to communicate easier.
We are going to have our first meeting/get together the end of September. This will allow all of us to get settled into a schedule..
We did the support group thing for our first several yrs then got tired of it and stopped. Haven't done it for many yrs. I do recommend it to new home educators though as it is such a help and encouragement.
I used to meet with my group 2-3x a week for park days, book club, creative writing club, art classes, science classes, geography club, game day, field trips, and celebrations. Then even more meetups with just a few families for lunch, the park, a trip, or hanging at each others houses.
Now, though, we've scaled back a lot. I am part of a new middle-schoolers group that does weekly field trips (and tours and classes), afternoon lunch get-togethers, and moms nights out. Ds has a ton of friends on the block and at CCD, but feels a kinship with other homeschoolers.
