So what's the damage this year? To you pocket book, that is! How much have you spent on curriculum? It always makes me cringe when I hit that "confirm order" button, knowing that I will spend more second semester (inevitably she will fly through her math and science so I will need to buy more).
ETA: Color me sleep. I just realized I asked you guys to fess up but didn't include the info myself. Lol. Thus far I've spent about $600 for my rising 6th grader and rising preschooler; we will usually spend another few hundred at the beginning of second semester to replace curricula that has been finished. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one :)

I've bought basic school supplies, maybe $40 worth.
We use a charter school so all the books n material are free.
I do want to buy some type of bible curriculum and will need some art supplies so I might need another $100.
Just bought a couple books that I wanted. One on the Irish potato famine and one on Queen Elizabeth I. I haven't had to buy curriculum in yrs since I already have most everything from all the older kids :-)

I know that's the point we'll reach eventually, at least with my older boy (3, in preK); unfortunately, my eldest (11 year old) is dyslexic so her curriculum choices reflect that will not really be a good fit for the other two boys unless they are also dyslexic.
ETA: and speaking of Queen Elizabeth, I keep trying to fit in British history - all because I saw a book I love (Kings and Things). Hmmm...

For us PS is completely out of the question and for 1 child at a local private school is about $6,000 (this is for a less than stellar school) a year. So, it really is cheaper to even do 1 at home.

Quoting coala:Our K4 curriculum we purchased back in March was about $100, 1st grade was $900. We will be purchasing K in just a few weeks and that will be another $500. I also spent about $75 on supplies. That included buying TONS of crayons (super cheap....50 cents a box), rulers, replacement dry erase boards for the kids (they used last years SO much that they are ruined), and a bunch of organizational supplies. I did spend less than what it would cost to educate them in a BM classroom.
I tell myself that it's cheaper than what we were paying in tuition for 1 child, to educate all 3 at home. Lol.
I lucked out. We have been wanting to try Alpha Omega's Switched on Schoolhouse (computer software curriculum) for a long time, but for the five core subjects is over $400. Someone in a swap group on FB had 4th grade level, albeit an older version, for $30! So we snapped it up. Ash loves it. We still had a great deal of supplies so we didn't need to buy a lot there. We did find some books we've been wanting. So I think we've spent about $150 just this year on school stuff. We just moved so money was a bit tight.
Just to share: here's Ash's "schoolroom" which resides in our spare room/library/sewing room/school room, etc

To the left - the shelf unit with supply boxes (what used to be Sue Patrick's workbox system). Dedicated computer for school work (got at yard sale for $20), to the right all the reference and extra workbooks. On the other side of that (Black bookcase to far right) are all her reading books.

On curriculum I spent about 700.00 for three kids. I could have saved about 100 of that and just used workbooks from Dollar tree for my daughter (kindergarten), but I really wanted something already kind of done.
The rest was spent on the boys. They are in 9th grade. I saved about 300-500 by buying over half of it on ebay.
It is our first year HS so I did have to spend a good bit more just getting our supplies started. My husband built a desk. I spent 20.00 on the plywood (for the top). We used the boys' old broken bunk beds to finish it. We used the legs of the beds to make the legs for the desk. We used other parts of the bed also. It is not the best desk, but it works. DH is going to make another one also. It will be more like a table though. This way they will have somewhere to do their work besides the kitchen table. THis will make it easier so I'm not constantly having to clean off the table so we can eat snacks and meals.
I still have to buy a dry erase board. I think we may use plexiglass. It is a little more expensive than the shower board but I think it will last longer. I still have to buy our supplies for our science experiments. I will go to Walmart today and pick up what we need for this week and then hopefully next week I can buy most of the other stuff I will need. I will probably spend around 50.00 for that.
Next year we won't spend as much. I will be able to sell some of the boys' books (we are not writing in most of them). I will also be able to sell all of the teacher's editions and guides. So maybe that will help offset the cost.
