Has anyone done online public or private school?
We are using K12 this year and we love it. I like structure and rules and this program is perfect for us and keeps us on track. It is a program that is done for you and all you have to do is print, read, and follow directions. My son is in second grade and this is our first year homeschooling so we needed a program like this to keep him in the same mindset that he was used to in the regular brick and mortar school. If that is what you are looking for, then I recommend it. If you are looking for freedom to express yourself if your teaching, this is probably not for you.
Are you only looking at free virtual public options, or are you also interested in private virtual programs?
K12 also has a private component - where you can pay only for the classes you want them to take, leaving you to do what you want for the rest (this option is not available when using it as a public virtual school in most states). You have other private, tuition based schools too - Kolbe (Catholic), Seton (Catholic), Calvert (secular), Oak Meadow (secular)...
I am a Home Schooling, Vaccinating, Non spanking, Nightmare Cuddling, Dessert Giving, Bedtime Kissing, Book Reading, Academic pushing Mother. I believe in the benefit of organized after school activities and nosey, involved parents. I believe in spoiling my children. I believe that I have seen the village and I do not want it raising my child. I believe that my place, as a woman, is in the home caring for my husband and children. My husband is head of our home. I am currently doing the K12 system. I like it because I can make sure he's learning it, and tweak lessons a bit to make sure he's really getting it... IE the 'color and cut out these places from the world (there was one from each continent)' became an "Ok, now that we've cut them out, lets put a north and south on this paper, and put them on the right places, just like they are on the earth." so he really gets more concept of WHERE they are, and of course, lots of looking at the globe, and such... It's working really well for us. :) He's a very motivated learner, and my biggest issue is getting him to stop and go play... he did 9 1/2 hours yesturday all on his own, and is now ahead of his peers... more... @.@ LOL
