I think it's worth a try, you can't beat the price.  My local library even has a copy. When people ask me about reading programs I tell them to try that one.   I tried it with my oldest son, it did not click for him.  We ended up getting Sing, Spell, Read, & Write(love it!).

 we use the book, and my husband loves it (he taught high school science and was at a loss with early pre-reading things)
