So my son and I have completed our first weeks of homeschooling and after almost having a nervous breakdown and having to change my strategy a few times, I wanted to share our biggest success story!
I am big on reading. While my son was in public and private school it was like pulling teach to get him to read. As part of our home academy, I started requiring at least 30 mins of reading per day. This increased to 40 mins. Today, my son ASKED if he could read for an hour! SUCCESS!
I realized that asking a child to read after spending 8 hours at school was lunacy. It wasn't that he hated reading, it was that he was simply exhausted!
I'm more confident now than ever that I am raising life-long learner!

This is pretty much how I got my daughter to enjoy reading. Along with picking out her own books for free reading. Even though she has never gone to public school she hated reading, but now she does it on her own and is even starting to write.
It's AWESOME when something works out!!
