For the Abeka Math and Language arts, what all is needed? Do you need the teacher's editions and the curriculum's or can you do without them?

I used 1st grade LA this year and didn't see the need for the TE but i did get the curriculum. The curriculum has your lessons and lesson plans. I was told the teacher manual is mostly the answeres for the workbook. At this age I was comfortable not using the manual.

We use them.
I like the lesson plans and the teachers helps.

I used them when we did Abeka because I appreciated all the help it gave in lesson planning (there is no guessing, just use what it says), help with ideas on how to present the material, and so on. But, having homeschooled a bit more, I realized I could have done it without the helps, if I had given it the time needed to sit down and deal with it.

Yes, there is teaching in the TMs. That's one of the reasons aBeka didn't work well for us.
