I haven't gotten to the point where he would use one so I don't know yet.  I will teach him to use one no matter what.

We have specific times when calculators are used - advanced sciences, second level algebra, calculus, etc. I taught an algebra class at my co-op and part of the class was the use of a graphing calculator - since most colleges expect you to know how to use one.

Not yet.  I'd say about 9th grade with the upper algebras and on we will.

I do not let my kids use a calculator until they have their facts memormized.  So I have a couple that will get to use them this year to check their work.

This.  I think mastering the basics is extremely important first.  And I don't care if it takes years and we have to go back over it again and again.

I did in high school. As it turns out my son has dyscalculia so that's the right way to go for him.

Yes, in high school.

My 7th grader's teaching textbook had some lessons that specified,"use a calculator"

Mine are so young still, but I think mastering the basics first.  I do most of my own math by hand, and occasionally use a calculator to check myself.  As they get to the more in depth and complicated maths and sciences then we will allow them to sneak their way in.

With a high schooler, you bet. But we do still drill basic facts in the car without a calculator, just in case. :)
