Has anyone heard of or used Reading Rods?

I already planned on using Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons as well as Hooked on Phonics with my daughter this upcoming year for kindergarten. However, I got an amazing deal on an entire set from K-3rd on Reading Rods. I really do not know anything about this curriculum. Has anyone used it? Did you like it? Was it easy to teach/use?

I have one set of the readers and cubes.  Someone gave them to me and I happily accepted.  I kept them on our activity shelves and my ds used them a lot.  I love how they're hands on.

I also like the hands on aspect. However, they seem kind of confusing to me. I am not sure that I can use this as a full phonics/teaching to read curriculum but it would be great for an activity center. That is probably what I will end up using them for.
