Best options for teaching 5yr old to read

Posted by   + Show Post
My DS is about to turn 5 and keeps saying he NEEDS to read. Besides reading books to him, what helped your kids learn to read? Any specific books or activities?

Lots of storytimes, starfall, bob books. And what really got kiddo reading was Elephant nad Piggie books by Mo willems. And anything comic book style. Oh, and being careful not put any type of pressure to read, not the slightest..

So far, we've been using a mix of All About Reading and Star Fall (just the free stuff) and that has been amazing for my 4 yr old.

We used McGuffey readers and Spectrum phonics workbooks with lots and lots of reading.
