Museum of Science and Industry.  It has tons of hands on activities for kids of all ages.  It is awesome even if it is a little pricey.

We have a planetarium close by that the kids love.  And the SEE Science Center, which is very STEM-y, lol, lots of sciencey mathy stuff.

We are a little over an hour out from Boston and there are some great museums there, but we don't make the drive often.

Depends where you live. We have a science center, museum of natural history plus a ton if state and national parks that have environmental centers. Local college has a planetarium.

It is really awesome!  I try to get there once a year or so.
