6/17*10/12=5/17

My question is how do you get the answer 5/17?

When you multiply both the num and den straight accross you get 60/204. Simplify by dividing both numbers by 4 you have 15/51 divide both by 3 to further simplify and you get 5/17

This is correct ~ you cross cancel to reduce before you multiply, then reduce by a factor of two.  Your final answer should be 5/17.

Quoting ballerina.2006:

6 and the 12 reduce to 1 and 2

1/17 times 10/2

10 times 1= 10
17 times 2 =34

Reduce down and you get 5/17
