Posted by   + Show Post

Anyone ever use this book? If so, reviews? How old was your child when you started and what was his/her skill when you were finished?

Thanks!

We didn't like it at all. We switched to hooked on phonics for a little bit then to OPGTR, which was a much better fit.

I hated it, didn't even bother trying it with my son, I was so bored by it. Mine was struggling reader so I thought I'd try it. I couldn't even make it through the first couple of pages. I ended up not using a "reading" program. He just learned with actual books and a dollar store phonics workbook.

I have this purchased to try in a year or two (DD is 3). The technique reminded me of the linguistic tests that some specialists give, and I used to be trained to give them, so I felt confident about using it because it felt familiar. I bought it to try it because I like structure and it is very cheap compared to other options. My second choice was just to teach all the sounds and to learn through doing in a gradual, casual way.

We tried it and hated it. It all depends on the kid and their learning style.
