Talk to me about the Boxcar Children books...

Posted by   + Show Post

Did you like them? Did your kids like them?  What age did they read them? Are there any scary or inappropriate things for a 4 year old?

We've read most of the Magic Tree House series and she loved them!

I've heard about these but I know very little.....

Thanks!

Does it ever explain why they ran away or how their parents died? I'd love a bit more background.

We read the first one and my kids were bored with it and I wasn't a big fan of the runaway theme.

My 9 y/o loves them. I have read certain chapters aloud to all 3 boys (9,6,4) but my 4 y/o is more mature than the "average" so that may make a difference.  There are sometimes scary but not usually inappropriate situations.  I like these more than Magic Tree House because there is a sibling bond and they always look out for each other (also with 3 kids and the MTH series being just a brother & sister, the Boxcar kid series fits our family better).  Try to get one from your library to check out before you buy.
