European food ideas

The kids wanted to do geography this year, so we are taking a "trip around the world" (not literally).  Our next stop is Europe.  Can someone give me some suggestions of foods unique to the European culture?  I know that's pretty broad, but maybe you could name a European country and food that would go with it.

1 mom liked this

Pierogies (Eastern European), Haluska, Saurkraut (pretty fun to make, bit stinky), Shepherd's pie, Greek salads, make some cheese (fromage blanc is pretty easy), Irish oatmeal

DH is French.  Crepes (either butter and sugar or with nutella), baguette, croissants.  They often do a VERY light dinner and cheese with bread and butter is usually served after dinner not before.  Salads often have goat cheese.  DH says Pommes Parmentier (like a potato casserole).  Steak Frites ("steek freet") bascially steak with french fries. Quiche.  Breakfast is bread and coffee.

Brioche, Ina Garten has a great recipe for this, it's AWESOME.  Basically, bread but sweet.
