Yesterday my 5 yr old said to me randomly that "D A D E" spelled Daddy.

I said no that's not right. Spell Mommy for me.

He said Mommy? K. M O M M Y.

I said spell Mom. He did. I said spell Dad. He did. I asked him to spell mommy again. He did.

so I said Daddy works the same way. Can you spell Daddy now?

He thought for a second and said D A D....D Y?

That's right! Good boy! You did it!

He was so proud of himself for figuring it out! I just had to share!

Oh of course. I've had that same conversation many times, lol. My sister drives me nuts though when she's always correcting dd's notes. I tell her if dd doesn't ask, don't say anything

If they ask me I will tell them the right spelling & then we usually have a short conversation about how confusing the English language can be!

Quoting paganbaby:

Yep. My 7yo dd spells signed, sind. I don't correct her though. I'm just glad she has an interest in writing at all, lol.

Quoting usmom3:

Lots of children start to figure out spelling from the phonetic sounds of words! It is just the way some minds work! That is great that he figured it out thought!

I will not have a temper tantrum nor stomp across the floor.

I will not pout, scream or shout or kick against the door.

I will not throw my food around nor pick upon another.

I’ll always try to be real good because I am the mother.

I am the mother.

I am the mother.
