Do any of you take sick days? We had to take one yesterday but I was not sure if alot of parents do them.
I have the 5 kids, so taking a whole day because one person is off, isn't great. But we'll go a bit easier. We've taken some days, though.
For us, sick days (or any other kind of "days off") don't really exist. Learning is still going on that day in some form, and it counts.
On sick days, I typically read them a couple stories, watch a history documentary and a Bill Nye or other science show that pertains to what we are learning, listen to some music, and call it all a half day. Taking a full day off for the 3 kids would be hard especiall since they never get sick all together, so we would miss nearly a week if we took sick days.
I love the idea of incorporating learning into rest time. My baby had imune induced hypothermia a couple weeks ago so we were off for 3 days because she required so much care and then monday i was in the ER with my 3yo untill 10pm so we were off yesterday. I will have to try and do the educational movies and books next time. Thank you!
Yes and no. If we are a little sick, then we might work slowly through the day, or do a light amount of work versus our normal day. If we're really sick then we take the whole day off. I try not to give us too many sick days since we like to take time off when regular school is going on to go to museums and other places that can be crowded on the weekend or during spring break/summer.
It depends on who's sick. If it's me then yeah. I can't teach when I'm throwing up. I'll give ds the day off then assign some light things for dd to do. Ifthe kids are sick then just that one gets the day off.
