Craft/experiment/busy ideas

I am helping run a book sale for a group I belong to and we really want to try to help keep kids busy while moms shop. We are holding the sale at a bowling ally where kids can bowl free while moms shop. We also want to have a craft or experiment table. So I need ideas! It has to be something fairly simple, but enjoyable for a wide age range, and not too messy. Any ideas are welcome!

It's always great to decorate hats or those thin wooden masks. You can get them pretty cheap at the dollar store.

Since it's a book sale thing, you could have a book making table....blank paper, cardboard squares for the covers, yarn for the binding....

I can't think of an experiment I'd feel comfortable doing in a bowling alley...

I don't know, I think the venue is just begging for some physics experiments.  :)

I thought of doing some bottles with little things inside, and handheld magnets do them to see what's magnetic and what isn't.

I like your book idea!!

Home made playdoh and take some home for $1.00 (to recoup some costs) in a baggie.
