Trying to plan out science lessons for this coming year...Help?

Trying to plan out next "year" for school. Attempting to settle on something for science...My Son is 6 and we are going to do a large majority of 2nd grade work but I'm not really concern with being "on grade level".

He easily grasped science concepts this last year though. He loves hands on science work so I'm trying to find a way to cater a bit more to that. Last year we did mostly unit studies for science. I'm hoping to not spend much on a science curriculum(or nothing) so that I can use more money for the hands on materials and trips.

Any ideas/tips? Any great websites etc? Thanks!

I usually pick a central textbook and then pull in living books from the library. Any idea on science area you wish to cover? Simple homeschooling is a great science website but is not free.
