They look at me and laugh because they can't remember. :)

We got asked this a TON over the summer.  At first he looked at me to answer it.  I just said 3rd.  That wasn't good enough for him so he now answers with 3rd and 4th.

Haha, cute! Sounds like mine.

Mine would technically be in 1st grade but we have finished 1st grade material and I've now been purchasing 2nd grade material. My son is really excited about it. So when people ask what grade he's going into, he says he's in second, but leaves out the homeschooled part. I figure this is just gonna keep happening so I'd like to equip him with a good response :)

My oldest remembers, my almost 1st grader does not.

They say what grade their age would be in if they went to public.

They say what they would be in if they went to public, but they're only keeping up with their own grades, so they'll argue tooth and nail about one of their sibling's grade.  They're peculiar.

At this point they can't remember, so they look at me. All I can usually manage is uhhh because I have pretty much forgotten too.

She says her grade level for her age. With some activities they ask for a grade, so I keep her grade with her age. Of course that doesn't mean books stay with that grade ;)

We use the whole grade thing, especially because a lot of activities have specific grade requirements and such, so he knows what it is offhand.

Mine usually look at me to answer for them.  My oldest has taken to saying "Oh somewhere between 3rd and 8th grade" and laughing.  He spent a week at camp and kept asking his counselor: "Uh, what grade is a nine year old again?"
