The school I am attending is a self contained nursing program. I am currently taking pharm and a&p at the same time as well as 2other classes and I can not stay afloat. I am falling behind horribily and I am starting to feel over whelmed and loss of interest in a career in Nursing. We are testing every wk in all 4 classes and its hard to decide which class I should give more time for as far as studying. On top of that I have to do ati testing every wk for one class and pass w/a 100% to check off on skills, and ati testing for pharm just b/c.... I feel like I have 6 classes. I leave home at 7a and get home at 7p, five days a week. im in one of my classes for 9hrs one day 8:30-5:30. I have 4 children 2 are falling behind in school and every night I have to decide rather or not to help them or help me... I hate having to choose. They don't deserve this. On top of do they get a meal or hot dogs so I can actually get in bed before 1a.... So I'm looking for another self contained program, brown mackie sounds like a good idea because they study one course at a time and only in class 2 days a wk. But the reviews are horrible, ppl are complaining about unprofessional instructors and how they were lied to. So I'm wondering if anyone knows of any schools. I know nursing school is hard that I can deal with but I just feel like im choosing my career over my children and to me that's not worth it. Any advice is welcome, thanks in advance....

I started off at a local community college for my associates. It was a lot of work as well. When I went back for my BSN, I went to a local University. Have you checked into other local schools in your area?

Yea I have checked into ivytech but their waiting list is 2yrs or better. I wouldn't mind goin to a community college to do my prereqs if I didnt have to wait so long.

I am pursuing my associates and most of the people in my program have families. I feel my program makes us feel comfortable with having to balance school, family, life, and sometime work. Some programs, make you stop workin and take up all your time (abandoning your family.) Now in no way is the program easy, but you don't get cross eyed looks because you may be a bit tired because you have other things to do other than schoo.

What is a self contained nursing program?

Self contained means prereqs are built in to the program... So theres no waiting list or competeing. I did feel like I was choosing school over my fam I was leaving home at 7 not getting home til 6 or 7 and then ati test for pharm which takes 3 hrs. Geesh wat do you do? Glad im done w/that school and its a memory.

Yes while a local community college takes a bit longer in the long run I think its best with those with a family and other responsibilites.  I get upset to at the time its taking but then I think back that its for the best I can actually take in what I'm learning.
