Ear Piercing for 12 year old...Should Allow or Should Not Allow?
My daughter will be turning 12 years old next week and she asked for her ear to be pierced. It is the pinna piercing which is located in the outer ear rim, top of the ear. Is it inappropriate for her to have one at this age?
I am on the fence with this one. Don't know if I should allow her to have one, need your opinions to finalize my decision.
I say no for several reasons:
1) Her school may not allow it
2) Can lead to deformities. A friend of mine had her ear pierced in the same location, and now she has this huge growth coming out the back of the top of her ear.
3) I personally believe that is something that doesn't look good on a child that young. 15 or 16, sure, but not at 12.
Deformities...?
Oh my.
Both my girls had their ears pierced before 4. For a couple of reasons:
1. They wanted them and they're not my ears.
2. Little kids heal a lot faster than older kids.
3. I think they look sweet.
4. They were well-healed long before they were involved in sports (or anything else that would necessitate them taking them out.)

If I'm not mistaken, you are talking about getting their lobes pierced, right? The OP is talking about her daughter getting the top of her ear pierced. My DD got her earlobes pierced when she was 6 months old, and I have to agree with you, they really do look sweet!
That is what I was talking about, yes...
The only problem we've had with cartilage piercing was difficulty stopping the bleeding. Both girls were 16 when they had it done, and both said it hardly hurt at all.

no i dnt think it is i say let her do it at least shes not asking for a belly ring (yet) wich most girls who r her age are already doing behind there parents back. it wont hurt to let her get it done. itry to remmeber when u where her age. she probably just wants to fit in or stand out! good luck let us know what you decide
