A girl died after falling from the Ferris Wheel at Morey's Piers on Friday.

The ride was in motion and Abiah Jones was about half-way up when she fell from her Ferris wheel car, police said. That's about as high as a five-story building. Abiah fell into the area where people get on and off the ride, according to police.

Wildwood police also told NBC10's Ted Greenber that Abiah, who is from Pleasantville, was on a trip with her school, PleasanTech Academy. There is no sign that it was an intentional jump or horseplay, police said. They think it was a freak accident.

In the statement sent out by Morey's Piers, the family said the fall happened around 12:30 p.m. and was under investigation.

"The Morey staff and family offer our thoughts and prayers to the family," they said in the statement.

I think so too. Can't imagine having to call the parent after something like that happening. :-(

Even if it wasn't horseplay, she had to have stood or leaned, right? It's not as if people just randomly fall out of those things.

yes. That is why they tell you not to swing the carts. It is a safety reason. They are able to swing so they can actually go around the wheel. Sorry. I have carnies in my family and grew up around carnivals. It is sad and something went terribly wrong.
