First play date at age 7

Using the class contact list, I emailed the parents of a boy in my son's class that he was very fond of this year. Turns out he lives only a few blocks away. Dad called me back and it was so cute - he nicely said "my son has never had a playdate - how does this work?"

We talked about a few options and decided that his son would come to my house today. He then asked "my son has a brother one year older - and he would really like to come too!". I said "sure- no problem".

I don't know if it is cultural (the parents are Chinese and speak some English) or if the parents just don't hVe friends that get their kids together.

The boys are here now- my boys are ecstatic and the kids are super sweet!

I feel honored to be their first playdate! Lol!

Did your kids go on playdates (of any kind) prior to age 7?

My daughter has never had a play date. We are the type who still knock on the door and invite people out to play.

I consider that a playdate though!

One of the options I listed for the dad was meeting up at a park ( in case he did not feel comfortable with the boys being at my house).

My dd is 7 and there for a long time, she felt like she was being tormented if she didn't have at least one friend at the house at all times...at least on the weekends.  Lol  She's getting used to not having anyone all the time though.  It seems like we're the only ones that don't have many plans for the summer. :/  But don't worry, she has got some play time in w/friends.  Depending on your definition, she started having them at 4 or 5 when the little girl that used to live across the street came over ALL the time.

I hear you! Since Saturday I have had 9 different kids (not including my own 2) over here to play. We have 3 of those 9 coming back tonight for a movie night.

I have to say this is NOT our norm though!!!!

I am one of those awful moms that forces my kid to have playdates with the children of my friends, so we can chitchat.  I have been doing that since he was about six months old.  If he wants to have a play date with a kid whose parents I am not close with, we make it for some place public.

Luckily his three best friends are my two best friend's kids!

I consider a play date something that is set up in advance.

We don't use the term playdate, kids from my daughter class just come over and play, we have an vacant lot between my house the neighbors house so we set up a childs dream conplete with a swing set and a full court basketball court with two hoops, the last time a little boy from her class came over and played he didn't want to leave so we set up the tent on the lot and we stayed overnight in it, my daughter and her friend take turns at each others house... they are only 6 and we treat him just like he is our own and they do the same with her.

That is us, maybe it is just a small city thing here, I have enough things to remember not a lone setting up play times...I will stay the old timer who still has kids who play hide n seek right before it gets dark or kickball in the streets.

We belong to a playgroup and we have playdates every Friday and sometimes we have middle of the week playdates...like tomorrow. We're meeting up at a play place :)
