Vacation or not?

We are thinking of not going home to fl this Christmas. My dh is military and we live in tx. We have gone home for Christmas every year. Well is year my dd will be 3 and a half. Mom wants me to come home and wants all of us to go to disney. My dh doesnt want to. He wants to stay here. My parents are willing to fly here for Christmas but his family will not. He wants to save that money and take a real vacation somewhere else when he is able to get leave. He doesnt like disney and thinks its materialistic and not a good thing to teach our dd. We have been to disney when she was an infant. I liked it he didnt. I want to take her and it will be the holidays and the park is done up for it. I dont know what to do. I see what he means, but i also would like to take her to disney. We always go home on leave. He is tired of it. Also we are hoping and praying we can get orders when he reenlists next spring to the base by our parents (good possibility). Everytime we go home it is around 3000 and we drive. He wants to go somewhere like the grand canyon or something else which i would also like to do

Weigh your options, it could be really fun to go somewhere else, just the 3 of you, for the holidays.

Maybe try to look at this situation through his eyes. It would do wonders for your relationship to get out of the rut and experience new things together. I know when Hubs and I are constantly roadtripping to go see family, it takes a toll. We broke up the monotony and only drove an hour to camp on a lake with ds, it was 10X better to take a vacation for just us rather than for someone else. When is the last time the 3 of you just went on a trip? Just a thought, disney isnt going anywhere :)

Tough spot for you and I totally see your point, but I think he might be right.  It can be so hard traveling, especially during the holidays, and staying home at Christmas can be so amazing.  Maybe you can help plan the vacation he wants to take and have something wonderful to look forward to?

I would do something just the three of you,you need to respect his wishes,tell your mom,she just doesn't get to have you EVERY Christmas,maybe alternate or something. My daughter only spends every other Christmas with us,and I understand.

I would go to Disney! I love it, and Holidays at Disney are awesome. but...

You can also go somewhere else to make him happy and go to Disney another time...they're not going anywhere. :)
