Bedtime is a good time for mom to read to jr. Read what HE LIKES. Anything by Mo Willams is terrific fun-"Don't Let The Pidgeon Drive The Bus" also he gets to participate-its a two person read. Also the "No David" books are funny. And byall means get "I Love You Stinky Face".

take him to the library and let him pick his own books. Even if they're all picture books.

Don't preasure him and make it fun for him.  Go at his pace.

I agree, bedtime is a good time to read to help him wind down. Let him choose his own books, that might help. Try to be animated when reading, that helps keep them entertained.

If you feel he is too active and you're worried about him, go see a developmental pediatrician. Better safe than sorry, sooner better than later. :)

I THINK I UNDERSTAND UR POST..LOL...JUST KIDDING.

FIRST OF ALL....DONT YELL..THE SECOND HE IS TIRED, STOP.

NEXT.....READING IS FUN!!  DONT MAKE IT A CHORE...THAT HE LEARNS TO DREAD.  I TAUGHT MY KIDS TO READ EARLY.. I CANT REMEMBER WHAT ITS CALLED...BUT ITS A SYSTEM OF MEMORIZATION.

THEY BEGIN MEMORIZING, THEN THEY LEARN TO SOUND OUT WORDS THROUGH THE SOUNDS OF THE WORDS THEY KNOW.

PUT A WORD ON A INDEX CARD.......PASTE THEM ALL OVER THE HOUSE...YOU ARE GOING ON A WORD HUNT.   GET A JAR, WITH PENNIES.

CHAIR...BED....TOILET, REFRIGERATOR, CABINET..RUG...TV...

ALL OVER THE HOUSE.  EVERY SURFACE.

WHEN HE WAKES UP FROM A NAP.....THEY ARE ALL OVER THE HOUSE.

THIS IS A SOMETIME GAME......(BET HE WILL ASK FOR IT)

THE OBJECT OF THE GAME.. IS FOR HIM TO READ THE WORD....AND WHEN HE DOES...HE GETS ONE PENNY TO DROP IN HIS WORD JAR.

THIS STARTS OUT EASY,..OBVIOUSLY   ITS A CARD ON A CHAIR..SO ITS A CHAIR... BUT....WHEN U TAKE AROUND FOUR CARDS OFF....STOP....AND HAVE A ''QUIZ''    MIX THEM UP,...ASK HIM WHAT THE WORD IS...AND HELP HIM IF HE NEEDS IT.

AS YOU PROGRESS, YOU CAN PLAY ALL KINDS OF WORD GAMES.    A STACK OF CARDS...HE GETS A PENNY FOR EVERY CORRECT WORD HE SAYS.......THEN ALLOW HIM TO SPEND IT ANY WAY HE CHOOSES,

FLASH CARDS ARE THE EASIEST WAY. HOLD IT UP..SAY THE WORD......HAVE HIM SAY THE WORD...THEN YOU SAY THE WORD TO GETHER,.

NO MORE THAN FIVE SECONDS A WORD.

U WILL BE SHOCKED TO SEE HOW FAST HE LEARNS TO READ.

HAVE HIM TELL U A STORY..WHILE U WRITE IT.

A CHALK BOARD OR DRY ERASE BOARD IS REALLY COOL TO USE.

THOSE ARE JUST SOME IDEAS...GOOD LUCK

They are teaching the children a new method of reading, I studied this method in college a year ago and it has worked great on my 6 year old. They start from spelling at first it is sounding out at least one letter out of the word (any letter) example YEAR at first they should pick up on like the r and with in a few months they will pick up the ear or the whole word year, after that they seem to read the word because they sound it out....Try it! it really works!

Making it fun is a great idea!  My girls all love to read.   I haven't had to struggle getting them to read.  My son may be a different story though.
