It's the first day of high school here, and Ethan, my middle one is in his senior year. I had no idea it would hit me this hard emotionally, but I have melted into a blubbering bucket of mama mush.
Why didn't anyone tell me it would be this hard to let go?
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!
dear marie -
i am keeping you and your dh in my prayers - he and you will enjoy being grandparents so much that you will soon wonder why you didn't have your beautiful grandchildren before your had your children -

Love this! With my boys nearly grown, our next step will be grandchildren. My neighbor became a grammy right before Easter, and she 'highly recommends it!!' It is my sincere prayer that my dh will be able to enjoy this as well....he has been hit with some heavy health problems in the past year.

dear Ellen Meister -
my sons are now 44 and 41 - and i started dreading their first day of their senior years when they started their freshman years in high school - i still miss the "old days" - even though i have the most wonderful husband of 48 years and have such a good life - i am still feeling the "empty nest" syndrome -
i think that some mothers are just never ready to stop being mothers even after their sons marry wonderful women and have beautiful families of their own -
i can now enjoy our fantastic grandchildren and am having great "bonding" times with them -
but, i am also having a different kinds of "bonding" relationships with my married sons - i'm so very happy that their wives understand and do not begrudge our "mother/son alone time" that we (i) need when(i) we need it -
that floats my boat - and keeps me grounded -
so, don't feel upset, ellen - there are more of us out here than i think we would like to admit!!!!
enjoy your children - they will be "your children" for the rest of their lives" - and, if you play your cards right, they will just "humor" you for the rest of YOUE LIFE !!!!

Just before I opened this post, I was holding my 3 year old and telling him that he was growing up too fast. It's terrible!
You think you're a mess now? Wait until graduation. My dd graduated in 1997. I still can't hear Pomp and Circumstances without tearing up.
Maybe it will go a long way toward making him feel better. Sending good wishes for grandparenthood!

Thank you. I hope he'll look forward to it as an incentive of sorts to staying well :)

Awww - I can't even imagine! I would break down too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I felt that this year when my youngest entered kindergarten. I had no problems when any of the others left...
Aw, Momma, you are allowed to be a blubbering mess. I've had 3 graduate from high school and one from college. I'm a complete mess every time thinking about them growing up.
Wait till he moves out to go to college. My youngest daughter moved out at the end of July and it's killing me--until she needs more money.
You will be fine, but it's difficult. Go ahead and have a few tears--you have EARNED them!
