Drive overnight!!! We traveled a LOT when I was a kid (18 hour drive to my Dad's parents). There were 5 of us kids at one point, 2 years apart. Driving overnight got them through a good chunk of the trip without having to stop every 2 hrs. A 6 hour trip would be a cinch that way. Have the car packed earlier in the evening. Dress the kids in their PJ's, brush teeth, etc. at bedtime.. and leave out. You can arrive around 2 AM and crash (the best you can with little ones.. lol).
