I know having a police officer is meant to keep our children safe, but

The town has had a police officer in the parking lot of the school this week. He is unobtrusive and I don't think the kids really notice. Truly I am grateful, and glad that if by some slight chance some sicko decides to copy in the next few weeks... a police officer is RIGHT there.

But somehow, it's not comforting at all.

I'm glad they are doing that. In our part of the world a police officer will check in at least one a day inside the school.  I'm grateful for any presence they city can effort to put out.  I know what you mean that conflict of somehow it isn't comforting, yet at the same time, glad they are there.

I hope they do this with the schools where my grandchildren attend. I think that it would make the parents and students feel somewhat better having them there.hugs Deannie

I work in a preschool, and we are fortunate to have an officer there every day!

I wouldn't mind having a cop at each of my kids schools. There's better things that can be done, but something's better than nothing....

I can understand why...after the events of last week, I think it's going to take a WHILE to get over things like that. I would like to see a bit more police patrols around the schools in our community, but I think unobtrusive would be key.

Our school district has School Resource Officers.  They are off duty cops that patrol the schools.  They've had them for years.
