 This has never happened to me but I would assume once you agreed to be exclusive

Some websites have the ability to make it so you stop receiving new matches. Make sure to cancel your account at some point though, cause most sites will charge your card for renewal.

 Me and my husband met on an online site... not a dating site, just a site like facebook or myspace. I kept it for too long in his eyes but it had games and the ability to donate points to causes. He was very mad at me and thought I was looking for more guys. I'd say as soon as you start feeling a connection so no one gets upset. But it needs to be a mutual agreement.
