SO hit his pinky toe on a piece of furniture, and I thought he was just being a baby like usual, but it's still swollen 6 hours later, and he said it still hurts the same. Now I'm worried he broke it, but we don't have insurance. I don't want to end up paying a bunch of money if they'll just tape it to the other toe, which is something we can do at home...
Should he go to the doctor? Does anyone know how much it would cost?
Edit: Now he has to go, he tried to go to work today (factory, so he wear steel toe boots) and they told him he can't come back until he has a doctor's note saying he is ok to return without restriction. Great...
I would just to have it x-rayed to see how broken it is. If he has small bone fragments floating around in there it could cause problems. also I think that if a bone is broken just right and releases the marrow into the blood it could cause issues with the kidney... but dont quote me on that one... i am not positive.
Keep it elevated, iced, and take aleve and ibuprofen, tape it to next toe.

I broke my baby toe and the one next to it by kicking a stool. 4.5hrs and a $30 copay later, they told me to ice, elevate, take Tylenol or Aleve for the pain and stay off my foot as much as possible. BUT, it was good I went in to make sure I didn't have something more complicated that would've required surgery.
I'd do the tape and keep it elevated, ice it, take Motrin thing but I'd also take him in regardless of insurance status if it goes a day or two and doesn't look better.
