How old was your child when they got their first pet?

My daughter got a fish when she was about 2 1/2. My husband got it for her and didn't tell me he was getting one. I take care of it now. I let her feed him once a day sometimes but I usually just do it. I clean his little fish bowl every week. It's pretty much my fish now lol.

We have always had a dog.
They haven gotten one of their own yet. They are family pets.

I had a cat before my kids were born, so that was really their first pet. My son was 4 and my daughter was 2. We got a dog. Then went on to rabbits, chickens, goats, raccoons, ferrets, ponies, cows, sheep, geese, donkeys......

My girls were about 5 or 6 and they had hamsters

Both were born into cats and a dog already inhabiting thier home. :-)

We got a dog when we first got married. He was my dog, but the minute I got pregnant, he (the dog) became protective of my belly. The minute I came home with Colton, Snoopy was his (or he was Snoopy's) lol
