SVU show......could this happen in real life

Lady is raped but jury says not guilty only because someone on the stand said real rape victims can't get pregnant. He was convicted of stalking.  We all know that is not true. Anyway he sues for custody and loses but gets supervised visits. So he gets to visit baby.  The mother on the show is currently going to run. I would too. I would go so deep in hiding they'd never find me.

But seriously would they really award visitation to a suspected rapist who was convicted of stalking.

What would you do?  I'd rather be in contempt I think than let him touch my baby  But at the same time, I would not want to go to jail and lose the baby to him. So it is like a catch 22.

Apparently a CONVICTED rapist can sue for child CUSTODY and/or visitation rights.  I heard a story about it on NPR a few months ago and just looked it up-they can in 31 states.  I don't know what I'd do in that situation-fight like hell and hire the best lawyer I could I guess.

Sadly it can happen. Personally I'd run like hell and no one would ever find us.

Yes - in most states, the rapist maintains paternal rights.

Sick, sad and true.

That is beyond sick and messed up.  Seriously! How can a court even think that is justice?
