When ds was a baby, I made up a song to sing him to sleep at night.

*Sung to the tune of Jesus Loves Me*

Mommy loves you, this you know

For she often tells you so

You are little, she is strong

You are right where you belong

Yes mommy love you, yes mommy loves you

Yes mommy loves you, she often tells you so.

This came up in conversation with my Mil recently, and she was mortified! She said no song about our Lord should be parodied like that and I should never sing it again.

What are your thoughts?

It's not really a parody. It doesn't make fun of Jesus or the original lyrics. It isn't humorous as parodies are meant to be. It is meant to be a sweet lullaby & is. Does your MIL know that you're Pagan? Is that really her problem?

Huh, I guess you're right about that,lol!

I'll have to tell her that next time this comes up. And yeah she's knows I'm pagan. That sticks in her craw more than anything >;-)

This.

We borrow tunes all the time for new songs - it does not 'make fun" of the original song.

It's not a " parody", though. This isn't a " jab" at a religious children's song. A paradody is tacky lyrics sung to a familiar tume, meant as a jab towards pretty much anything.

If this what you sing, it's kind of up to you and your religious beliefs. I found a night time prayer that didn't say "if I should die before I wake" because I remember being six and that part left me freaked our every night :-)

I also changed the last line of " Rock A Bye Baby" because it sounds like the mom who wrote it sounded a bit PPD. :-)

They aren't parodies, neither is yours.
I can see her point, but the alphabet song, twinkle little star, and another kid's song all have the same melody.

So, basically, you can can still sing the religious version if you so choose and your version.

It isn't a parody, it isn't snide Or a hateful change.

Maybe your mom felt you put yourself above Jesus in your rendition ? Again, that is up to your religious beliefs.

Oh come on!! It's just a song that I am sure Jesus would have loved. It's sweet and loving.
