Has anyone ever heard of an inmate being released early from their sentence due to them dying of a terminal illness?

I have heard of the inmate trying to get early release but those crimes they committed were heinous crimes and never got their request

I've heard it's possible, but it depends on your crime. If it's a heinous crime, I don't think they get released. But with misdemeanors, or less serious crimes (i.e., didn't kill anyone) I've heard they can get sent home to their family. Not sure it's accurate though.

Yes.
It happened just this week. A woman named Virgil was released from a California prison. She has cancer, she was released to spend the rest of her time with her family. She was in prison for protecting herself and children from her abusive spouse. I believe she was in prison for 30 years. She should have been released a long long time ago!

Google Sin By Silence...it's an awesome documentary.
