Because I said so

I was hoping not to use this phrase. But I e discovered its usefulness now. My oldest never went through a Why? Phase. And I thought my youngest had skipped it too. I was wrong. After about the 15th or so why? I've started to say because I said so. This is normally followed by " Oh, ok." It's tough answering all those whys. And I think some of them are just to see how long he can keep me talking.

And you say because its important for you to think and for me to see how you are thinking.

Surround yourself with people that add to your life not subtract from it.

That just shuts down curiosity. In our home "Why?" is encouraged.

Mostly I answer him. And try to get him to ask in more detail. But at bedtime we can't go on all night.

What I do when it is a bedtime dealying tactic is that I write the question down and then promise we will discuss it the next day. That way they still go to bed, they learn that theycan't delay bedtime, and they still learn.

Not the same thing, but when you said "keep me talking"..made me think of this scene in the movie Uncle Buck:

I always say, "because I'm the mom, stop asking".
