Slip 'n' slideYou know what I miss doing in my front yard the most? Setting up the slip 'n' slide and then running and throwing my entire body weight face-first onto a slippery piece of fabric and vaulting into a small, dirty, shallow, warm pool of hose water. With my brother filming the whole thing and cackling at me. Ah, those were the days.

And hey, if you're planning your own outdoor bash for the Fourth of July, setting up the slip 'n' slide may be the perfect mode of entertainment. The kids will love it -- and also be plenty tired by naptime. But if you're not really feeling the slip 'n' slide idea, then maybe you oughta check out these totally INSANE videos of the most daring slip 'n' slides I've ever seen. Your adrenaline will be pumping and your heart will be pounding ... and I for one am glad there are kids far braver (and far more creative) than I am out there.

So on we go! Here are the videos:

Wow, the speed with which these kids launch themselves off this cliff just looks exhilarating. I held my breath each time, picturing them flying into those really pointy looking rocks below. I don't think I'd have the guts to do this -- I'd be the girl who has so little control of her body coordination, she goes in face- and stomach-first. Ouch!

Omg, honestly, who thinks of this stuff!! Definitely not something you should try at home (yeah duh), because from the video description, three people passed out from the impact of hitting the water. I ... don't even know. You have to watch this one, but make sure the kids aren't around. Don't want to give them any bright ideas.

Man, going down on your stomach on this 300-foot slip 'n' slide looks mighty painful. Then to slide into the grass afterward ... that probably doesn't feel all that fun. Though I wouldn't mind trying out this one; it looks like it could be a lot less dangerous rush than some of the other videos!

All right, the widest slip 'n' slide I've ever seen looks pretty awesome too. Might be a tad painful for the ladies out there going stomach-first, but I'd still give it a whirl. Think you could do it?

This one just seems ... to ... go ... on ... forever ... Looks like this lady's husband was the first one to make it all the way to the bottom. Good for him! It's definitely quite a feat. All those bumps would probably make the ride that much more interesting.

Here's a reason why you shouldn't go out of town for any longer than a couple of hours. This kid built a 60-foot slip 'n' slide down the side of his house while his parents were gone. He flies down the side of his house. Up onto a ramp. Into an inflatable pool. Good ideas all around, right?

Think you have the courage to try any of these slip 'n' slides? Was it one of your favorite summer activities as a kid?
