If you have school aged kids, have they already been given a lot of homework?

I don't have school aged kids yet, but I know some of you do. :)

School starts next week for us. I have been over the schedule, he shouldn't have any extra homework if he puts some effort into it. There might be a project or experiment that reqires work outside the regular day but if he needs more time then he didn't do what he was supposed to.

DD got her first homework packet on Monday. They give them about 3-4 pages to finish before Thursday and turn it in.

Right now it's letter writing and identification as well as name writing. She's so cute working on it. lOl

Reading assignment every night, spelling words to prepare for the test fridays, and math work they were unable to finish in class. Her teacher doesn't like too much homework, says on average it shouldn't take longer than 30 minutes and that's on the long side.
