Hello, I am very new to this. But, I need help and advice. I have two children, and my husband has two children, so together, of course we have 4. Ages 20,19,17, and 13. My husbands ex wife took him back to court last year for post-secondary support on the 19year old. Washington state is one of the few states that allow this. He was ordered to pay 59% of the college funding. We are very tight money wise and live budgeted pay check to paycheck. My oldest daughter is 20. She has been living on her own, working a full time job, and paying for college since she was 18. So, I do have somewhat resentment towards the judges ruling, but my husband couldn't do anything but pay it. I don't think I am a bad step mom, I love my step kids and they love me, I think. We have a very good relationship. But, his son refuses to get a job and help with expenses, as the judge ordered. So , he went one semester and quit!!! We still had to finish paying the loan. We had to take the ex back to court to have the order removed because she refused to call and make the court aware that her son quit. Now a year later he is back in college and the ex is wanting us to pay again!!! I suggested to my husband to talk to him about a community college instead of the major university, to be sure he would stay in school this time. Well the ex sent him off anyway... Still, he has no job... I am furious!!!! Am I wrong? If I am please tell me, I won't be offended. I feel like we can't afford to help my daughter who struggles, but we may have to pay for his son again!!! Ex says she is taking us back to court... What do I do or how do I handle this?
