BM won't get SD's teeth fixed...

Back story:  BM is no longer working and got SD put on Medicaid.  She took SD to Smile Smiles for a cleaning (in case you haven't heard:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pIoMaw4zC9Q  ).  DF was really upset, also because his father is a dentist and will do SD's normal dental cleanings/check ups for free.  DF pleaded with BM to not take SD back to Small Smiles and to let his dad handle her dental work.  BM agreed.

So Small Smiles had said that SD had an infected tooth and it needed to be taken care of right away.  BM went with DF to his dad's with SD and found out that her infected tooth is draining into her mouth and she has a very large cavity on the tooth next to it.  Her cavity needs to be filled and her infected tooth needs to be extracted.  Since this is in a highly sensitive area and SD is only 4, DF's dad referred SD to a colleague who specializes in children's dental work.

DF made the appointment, but it is not covered by Medicaid so BM refuses to take SD.  DF has no current CO (it's in the works) and BM wants to take SD back to Small Smiles.  The thing is, she hasn't done that yet and it's been almost 2 weeks now.  SD's infected tooth can stop draining (which probably tastes awful) and form an abscess and become painful.  Also, the drainage can get into SD's bloodstream and start another infection!

DF wrote an email to BM explaining the severity of the situation, but hasn't received anything back.  BM will not allow DF to see SD atm either.  DF went to his lawyer and is currently filing for temp. custody.  We don't know what else to do.

I agree... Tooth infections can cause strokes and other brain damage. You don't mess with teeth.

I think that's pretty serious. She needs medical attention. I would contact cps.

Contact CPS!! We actually had a local case recently where a father went to jail for neglecting his child's teeth.

If he can't see her right now, how do you know she hasn't taken her back?

Been trying to get BM to take SD8 to the dentist for 2 cavities for 6 months. I have offered to do this for her, since I am usually off work during the days (I work nights and weekends) and it would not require either BM or DH/BF to take off work to take SD8 to the dentist.  BM refuses but still can't find time to even call to check for an appointment.  BF/DH is doing it this week because we have had enough of BM's excuses. BM also makes all kinds of excuses for why she can't take SD8 and SD12 to the doctor to get prescritpions refilled for asthma maintenance medications or for the allergy clinic monthly check up for their allergy shots.  DH and I do all this; DH makes the appointment and if I am free and he is working, I take them.  This is okay, but not the dentist?  Whatever

Is BF willing to pay for the visit to the specialist? Why can't BF take her to the dentist?
