If you have joint custody, what is your visitation agreement?
Does it work well for your family or do you wish you could change it?
We are working on a gradually increasing schedule with SS. We are several states apart so right now we get him here for a week in the spring (easter or psring break), a week to ten days in the winter (thanksgiving or christmas), and are working up to him being here for 8 weeks each summer (increasing a week or two each year).
We had a choice between having him here 5x a year, or having him here 3x a year and J being able to fly up there to be with SS when he has his surgeries. It was tough because obviously we would love to have him here more but realistically J just cant afford more than 5 trips a year total.
However there is a clause in it that says that ANY TIME J is able to be in their state, he has immediate and complete placement of SS no matter what, even if it is outside the defined custody time. So if he can save up the extra money (hes thinking tax time) he will try to make an extra trip each year to spend a few days with SS besides the surgery trips.
It is also to be reviewed when he is 12, at which time SS can decide where he wants to live. Hes already said he wants to live here.
