Why do men get charged a yearly fee for having a CS case against them? What is the yearly fee for?

We live in Arkansas, and DH has to pay a yearly fee. We never really understood why there is a fee. I think it's kinda funny a man has to pay CS then have to pay a fee on top of that just for having to pay CS.

It's a fee to offset the cost of processing - in some states the employer can charge for having to withhold it. The payroll company charges his employer extra, and the state allows the cost to be passed down.

In Oregon, if over $500 is collected in the state's fiscal year (Oct-Sept), $25 is taken out of the support amount, so then technically the recipient of the cs is charged.

1 mom liked this

DH pays through the state and has to pay $3.50 extra every month to go through the state instead of paying BM directly.  Bm lied about him paying her CS, so we'll gladly pay the 3.50 to go through the state from now on, but I always thought it was a little ridiculous....do they charge BM for paying her CS?  Why does only one side have to pay the processing fee...why not both parties involved?  I mean, it's not a lot of money, but still....

My DH was CP of oldest skid. He had money taken out ever year for a fee. I think it was $35 or so. We figured it was just their way of being pissy that a man was actually raising his kid and the BM was paying.

I'm pretty sure that's the way it works in Texas. I could be wrong.

But I'm not aware of any fees associated with DH's child support payments and I'm the one who goes and pays it.

This is the same in NY, unless the recipient is on TANF
