Money and kids

SS will be 12 soon and will start a new school in September, DH plans to give SS a debit card to use for lunch, snacks and other miscellaneous items. This won't affect the CS arrangement, is this something DH needs to discuss with BM since he is only the NCP? Would the CP be required to discuss the arrangement with the NCP?

Is there any valid reason why a CP would object to this?

I think he should let her know for information purposes only and I can't think of a reason she would object to it.

Maybe let her know so she doesn't do the same thing.  It would make me nervous for him to have the card at school in case it got lost.

Here the kids have an account that we put money on for anything they need.

What's the relationship like between BM and your DH?  Ideally, I would say he should talk to her about it because I think it helps to have both parents guiding his financial education.

I agree with Wifey & Derdriu. DH & BM should both be on the same page about it.
There is so much potential for issues. Expectations & rules about the card should be discussed.

I can't think of any reason why CP would object... I can however think of several reasons NCP should be cautious.

But would you object to the NCP giving your child a debit card?

Debit cards have a PIN and activity can be monitored online.

Debit cards can also be run as credit cards without entering a PIN...

They won't ever be on the same page where finances are concerned but I think DH can tell her, he doesn't need to have a discussion with her on it, since it is his money not hers.
