Ok, my DH has carried my SD and my kids on his insurance all but for a year and a half when I had the better insurance plan. That was 6 years ago. Now I am again going to have the better insurance plan (working for a major company that has better premiums). We have decided to move me and the kids off of his insurance plan effective for the beginning of the year and put them on mine. We will save over $400 a month in premiums. It's just too good of a deal to not do it.

Now I am the SM and I will be covering my SD on insurance as well as my own 2 children. I know there are moms out there who would not be happy about this. The way we see it, health insurance premiums are going through the roof and if we can save a little (or a lot) on them then we are all for it.

What do you think? What would you do?

As long as SM doesn't have access to medical records of SCs and does not feel entitled to make & attend medical appointments or make medical decisions, I see no problem with it.

We don't have that choice since my insurance company will only cover skids if they live in the same home or we have a CO to cover it. I'm glad I asked them because if we had went with mine and the insurance challenged covering a charge for him and required proof he was my dependent, we would have been screwed. And financially we'd do whatever made sense for our family regardless of what BM thought of it. If she didn't want him on my coverage she could cover DSS herself.

I would not care as long as plan doctors were available in my immediate area.  If it changed doctors with whom there was a long established relationship - I might be pissed.  However, I deal with children who have various specialists (allergist and neurologist) - so maintaining their providders is important to me.  Then again, XH has never provided medical coverage for the children or contributed to any associated medical costs - so he really cannot say BOO about my choices.

I carry all the kids and DH on mine.  It's much better and much cheaper than the plan DH can get.

this.  Make sure that providers are in network.

Dh is CO'd to cover SD and he has her 50/50, so she has two home addresses. All it says is that he has to provide insurance for her, it doesn't say that he HAS to be the one to provide it through his work.

SD's current dr is in network- that was the first thing I checked. All 3 of our kids go to the same dr.

I will have access to her records as I have always had access. I take her to the dr more than BM (I think she has taken her a couple of times over the last 8 1/2 years) and DH. I always have my DH on speaker phone when I have to take SD if he's available. I will also call BM if she's available as well. BM really doesn't have a problem with me taking SD and having access. So that's not an issue here. DH has been taking SD more here lately since he's been home and I am perfectly fine with that!!

I certainly don't feel entitled, I just help out when I'm needed. I do a lot for SD.
