Okay, so SS11 is in 6th grade this year and has been struggling with a few classes. He has been without his xbox since the middle of the first quarter when progress reports came out. I've been monitoring his grades and have it set up to get notices when his grades drop below 85.
In the past years, SS has had no issues keeping all his grades at B- and up. I was just looking over his grades since there is barely a month left in the second quarter and come across something. Here are his current grades with the percentage next to it:
As I was looking at his grades, I thought some of the letter grades looked a little low. It was never something I had bothered to look at before cause SS has always had good grades, but come to find out this is the schools grading scale:
Honestly, it blows my mind. I have never seen or heard of another scale like this. From what I found online this scale is geared more towards honors programs than regular classes, though some schools do use one similar.
Now, my question is...should we lift the punishment of SS getting his grades up to at least a B- before getting his xbox privileges back? The typical college grading scale here is:
F 59 and below
I guess I just feel badly that he is being graded at such a higher standard than DH or I were. We are getting him help from his teacher and I am helping him at home to try and get his grades up. Anyway, opinions on this would be helpful.
