Hello ladies! My hubby and I just bought our first Ferret, Bonkers on Friday January 4th. We named him Bonkers. I have never had a ferret before and neither has he. growing up I had a million hamsters and dogs. That's pretty much it aside from fish. So far things are GREAT with him. He is 5 months old & just a pleasure! He loves to explore, but we are trying to not let him roam to far. I am scared he'll get lost! His cage is HUGE, so he has plenty of space plus we take him out every so often so that he is used to us. Is there anything I should know about Ferrets, that might not be in the books or have been told to me when I bought him? I want to make sure that he is properly cared for and that we don't miss anything! Here are a few pictures of our new little baby=)

Congratson your new fuzzy.  I have 7 at the moment and have had ferrets for about 10 years.  One thing I think I saw in your last photo is it looks like you are using litter in the bottom of the cage.   If so you may want to only put the litter in his litter box.  Otherwise he will use the whole cage, plus it is a waste of litter.  Just remember they like to be out with you alot, at least 1-2 hours (AT LEAST) a day.  No matter how big the cage.  Ferrets will get very depressed if kept in their cage to much.  Good Luck

Personally I would say around 3-4 hrs daily. And in a ferret proofed room (is yours?) this shouldn't be a problem. What is he eating? How is his health?

Ferrets are such great pets, just be sure you are aware of all the health problems they tend to run into at some point. No need to be surprised. And make sure to have a good fert vet that does surgeries and a back-up vet or two. I know of a ferret that died recently due to surgery not being done due to vet being away, and no payment plan accepted.
