Boy or Girl?

Okay, so I just bought my first ferret (Bonkers) on January 4th, but I am thinking that he needs a friend. I think this time we will rescue one that needs a home. My question is should we get a boy or girl? Bonkers is male. Do they have problems with other males? Should I get a female? I don't know...Also, how do we introduce them to eachother? Do Ferrets normally get along with other Ferrets? Anything I should be concerned about? Thanks!

As far as boy/girl it doesn't really matter as long as they are both "fixed".  But I would say take your ferret to the shelter and let HIM pick.  Ferrets are very particular on who they will accept.  If you don't let him pick my guess is you will end up with 2 seperate cages!!  Also when ferrets do bond, they bond tightly, so it is better to have one or three ferrets together verses 2.  Because sometimes if you have 2 and one dies the other one gets so lonely and depressed they also end up not living very long.  It is great you are going to a shelter.  Then you can also know about the ferret a little more before you get it, and they should let you bring your ferret to play with some new guys to see if he likes anyone!!  Just be sure your ferret plays in a clean area, and ask the shelter if they have had any outbreaks of ADV.  When you do first introduce them they will probably chase each other around and will try to nip at one another.  You may hear some noises from your ferret that you have never heard before, lol!!!!  They have very thick skin, so some rough houseing is fine.  But if one is constantly harrasing the other and it looks out of hand, you'll need to seperate them.  Well, good luck, any other questions just ask.

Thanks for all the advice! it is a great help!! I never would have known to ask about the ADV! I am really excited to get a second one & my husband & I thought about maybe getting 2 (so 3 total). We will see how that works out though. I am due in March & don't want to take on to much  since I already have a toddler! LoL! Thanks again! You were much help!
